“People’s Princess” and social media star Carla from Bankstown uses her ~iConIqUe~ personality and prowess to star in the 2022 season of Celebrity Apprentice Australia.
The outrageous drag queen-turned-reality star has attracted a myriad of followers posting light-hearted jabs as former NSW premier Gladys “Butter Chicken” Berejiklian’s no-nonsense assistant.
Created by comedian Benjahmin James, the caricature was designed to spread joy whilst the country was stuck in lockdown.
Who Is Benjahmin James, A.K.A Carla from Bankstown
28-year-old Benjahmin unveiled his real identity during an episode of A Current Affair in September 2021.
When asked if he thought his character would take off the way it has, he said: “Absolutely not. I enjoy doing it. I enjoy bringing people that happiness, making them smile, especially during times like this.”
With more than 60k followers on Instagram and TikTok combined, Ben uses his new-found platform to give others a voice.
“I would say Year seven till Year 10 I was bullied relentlessly, whether it was about my weight or my sexuality, or anything like that,” he told interviewer Lauren Golman.
“Last year when we first had the lockdown I was severely depressed, to the point where I just didn’t want to be around anymore. I was in a dark deep hole and I’ve pulled myself out of that.
“As the following grew, I just wanted to use the platform to spread awareness for a lot of issues I’ve dealt with in my life.”
