Below Deck Down Under is docking on Australian shores on March 18 with Captain Jason Chambers at the helm.
And while he’s a fully qualified Yachtie, it turns out things might not be completely smooth sailing for the hot commander.
As reported in episode 154 of the So Dramatic! podcast, Captain Jason was once the fearless leader of the 46-metre superyacht, Moatize.
Back in 2019, while docking at Cairns Marina, Jason accidentally crashed the boat after a malfunction took place.
Now, this wasn’t just a little bump that Below Deck fan-fave Captain Lee would have a heart attack over. This snafu actually caused significant damage to both the boat and the wharf gangway.
To make matters worse. someone managed to film the ENTIRE thing with the whole event making the evening news.
What Happened to the Superyacht Moatize, Helmed by Captain Jason Chambers?
According to Channel 7 — who reported on it at the time — damage to the Cairns Marina had to be assessed after “the luxury vessel Moatize was coming in to dock when something went wrong.”
The report stated that the starboard gear (the right side) became stuck and the engine couldn’t be shut down.
“It made a dramatic entrance into the popular dinner precinct during the weekend dinner rush,” the newsreader said.
After the accident, the jetty was closed and other boats were moved to nearby marinas and Jason then made his TV debut, calling it a “technical fault”.
“The Captain did a great job to avoid injury or any oil spills,” Joanne Drake of the Super Yacht Group told Seven News. “He did his best to minimise damage.”
