Ever since promos for Married at First Sight Australia 2022 teased a dramatic mass walkout, everyone has been dying to know WTF went down at that commitment ceremony.
Just when we thought we’d seen it all, a teaser trailer for the ninth instalment of the marriage experiment showed intruder Dion Giannarelli removing himself from the set. Then, a number of other cast members, including Tamara Djordjevic, Domenica Calarco and Ella Ding, could be seen following in hot pursuit.
“I’ve seen enough for one day,” Dion exclaimed, while Domenica said she “doesn’t want to sit here anymore either”.

Now, as reported in episode 152 of the So Dramatic! podcast, we know that the walkout has to do with Dion’s MAFS spouse, Carolina Santos, hooking up with another groom!
Apparently, Carolina and fellow intruder Daniel Holmes weren’t keen on their respective partners, Dion and Jessica Seracino. Instead, they decided to get together and continue in the experiment as a new couple.
Gosh, this show almost has the same amount of recoupling as Love Island!
What Caused Dion Giannarelli to Walk Out Of the Commitment Ceremony?
While the partner swap was a shock in itself, it wasn’t until later in the series that things came to a head.
“[Carolina and Daniel] chose to stay with each other on the show,” a source revealed, before adding: “but then they left… didn’t recouple or stay in the experiment.”
Until a later Commitment Ceremony, that is.
“They show up at a Commitment Ceremony uninvited and want to continue in the experiment together,” the source continued. “It was pretty hectic and full-on.”
As expected, sh*t hit the fan.
“The contestants are like animals in a zoo screaming at them,” they said. “Experts [were] left gobsmacked. Then… the ENTIRE CAST [walked] out of the Commitment Ceremony.” And TBH, it’s kind of understandable!
According to the MAFS insider, “no one likes Carolina” as a result of the jaw-dropping move.
“Carolina had a tough time on the show but she deserved it for what she did,” they confessed. “She cheated on Dion and he was so well-liked.”
