Married at First Sight Australia 2022’s Al Perkins may have said he never had a girlfriend before the show, however, it turns out that not only did he have a girlfriend, but we’ve got the receipts to prove it!
As reported in episode 147 of the So Dramatic! podcast, host Megan Pustetto revealed that the 25-year-old was in a relationship with a woman named Maddy Sanli.
In one photo obtained by So Dramatic!, Maddy posted a very loved up pic of her and the tradie for his birthday.
“25 looks good on you (love heart),” she captioned the post. “Happy birthday my prince charming. Thank you for always putting a smile on my face.” Prince Charming? Sounds very couply to us!
Adding even more evidence to the fray, friends of the pair commented under the post.
“Best looking couple I ever did see,” one person wrote, while another said: “The most beautiful couple”.
Al himself even wrote back to one comment, saying: “I’m gonna get you to sing at our wedding.”
What Happened to the Instagram Post About Maddy and Al?
The posts have since been deleted, however, they were originally shared to Maddy’s Instagram account in June — just months before he walked down the aisle with his new bride Samantha Moitzi.
After rumours began circulating about his former flame, Al shut them down while on the media circuit for the show.
Seeing this, Maddy then posted a number of pics on her Insta story, captioning them: “Never had a girlfriend. Proof says it all. Love the act little boy.”
Maddi Sanli’s Friends Confirm that She Dated Al Perkins
After fans in a MAFS Facebook group uploaded a screenshot from TikTok, we found a few telling comments from Maddi’s friends confirming the relationship.
“100% can confirm. I knew his girlfriend,” one user wrote. While another said: “Yup! My best friend is good friends with her too.”
And then there was this:
“Oh no they were definitely together, like very publicly together. But also definitely could’ve been playing around aswell cause we was toxic asf [sic].”
Oh, Al.
Al Perkins’ Friend Comes to His Defence
Now, as we know there are two sides to the story and we managed to get Al’s from a friend of his.
“Al and Maddy met a few times around December 2020,” our source said. “She moved overseas so things never worked out or eventuated into anything serious between them.”
According to Al’s friend, the groom was chasing Maddy and was planning to “officially ask her out”, but she made the big move to New Zealand before he got a chance.
“He actually only met her four times in real life over the space of a month,” the source added. “They had been talking for six months in total. I think he was planning to maybe ask her out when she got back to Australia.”
Apparently, Maddy “was always asking him when he was going to ask her out”.
Al’s response? “When you get back to Australia,” the source said, before adding: “It’s being blown up a lot more than it should.” Blown out of proportion? NEVER!
As we all know, Al then went on Married at First Sight Australia.
And because So Dramatic! isn’t one to have just one source (gotta keep it balanced, ya know?!) another friend then gave this blunt response:
“I don’t know her, never knew they dated,” they said. “She really is a secret girlfriend because I never knew of her.”
