Australian Survivor host Jonathan LaPaglia has revealed that a number of Blood V Water contestants collapsed on-set due to punishing conditions.

Ahead of the series premiere on January 31, the man at the show’s helm chatted to TV Tonight about the challenges the cast and crew alike faced while filming in Far North Queensland.

As if having to blindside their loved ones and rough it in the outback wasn’t enough, JLP said the weather conditions in Charter Towers were “brutal”.

“I thought Cloncurry was bad,” he said of last year’s Down Under location. “But wow. This was next level.”

The host then revealed it wasn’t just the players who succumbed to the horrifying heat. “In fact, it was so hot this season that we had several players collapse in challenges and several crew go down as well.”

Australian Survivor: Blood V Water is the second season to have an Aussie backdrop. Past iterations have been filmed in Fiji and Samoa.

While the heat proved to be a challenge, Jonathan says this season has a greater “influence of water” than the last.

“There’s rivers, creeks, billabongs, bodies of water and definitely more vegetation,” he confessed. “It’s still very rugged terrain for the players but it all adds up to something that’s going to be pretty spectacular.”

How Is Blood V Water Different To Traditional Australian Survivor?

In an Australian Survivor first, Blood V Water will see contestants will face off against their loved ones.

Siblings, in-laws, couples, parents and children will put their relationships to the test in a bid to become 2022’s Sole Survivor.

This isn’t new information to die-hard Survivor fans, though. Viewers of the OG US version will be more than familiar with this twisty “new” format.

The theme has been featured twice in its 41-season run — once titularly in 2013, and again with Survivor: San Juan del Sur the following year.

Australian Survivor: Blood V Water kicks off on Monday, January 31 on Channel Ten and 10Play.
