Former Bachelorette Sam Frost‘s ex-boyfriend Jay Bruno will appear alongside her brother Alex on Australian Survivor: Blood V Water.
The new twist on the hit survival series will see players head into the competition alongside family members, with Jay and Alex being promoted as “in-laws”.
Reality TV fans are a little confused by this pairing, though, given Jay only dated Alex’s sister Sam for a short time in 2021.
“Sam Frost’s brother is playing with her ex of about five minutes… and billed as ‘in-laws’… Awks!” one fan of the show penned online.
However, the 34-year-old drummer and personal trainer maintains that he and Alex were like family at the time of filming.
“I had to have someone that was close to family and at the time he was,” Jay told the Daily Telegraph. “It did add an exciting element [being there together] as we didn’t know what was going to happen.”
He added: “It made it a bit more surprising and fun.”

Jay reportedly called time on his relationship with the Bachelorette star in November after her anti-vax stance “drove a wedge” between the two.
Now, ahead of his Survivor debut on January 31, Jay says their separation was “pretty simple”.

“I just guess I couldn’t see a future with her,” he explained of his ex, adding that they haven’t stayed in touch.
“It is never easy to stay friends with someone you dated,” he confessed. “I think it would be unfair for me to hover around and confuse her.”
He continued: “It is obviously hard because you feel for the other person but people just break up sometimes and I didn’t want to lead her on so I have moved on.”

Before his foray into the Aussie outback, Jay appeared on another, albeit little-known, reality series.
In 2019, the budding star participated in Instant Hotel, which is essentially Come Dine With Me but for rental properties instead of sub-par homecooked meals.
Jay competed alongside then-girlfriend and influencer Leah Johnsen.
