The singer and actress says she is “the luckiest girl in the world” after surviving a dive into a shallow pool that broke her neck in two places and narrowly missed her spinal cord.

“Sometimes life can take a big turn in the blink of an eye.. for me, 2022 is not off to a great start 🥺🤍 a broken neck (plus a positive covid test),” Alli penned on Instagram alongside a gallery of images from the hospital.

“Long story short — I dove into a shallow pool head first & hit my head on the bottom.. on New Year’s Eve I got X-rays/CT Scans & an MRI to find I have 2 severe fractures in my neck (C6 & T1) 😖🥵,” she detailed.

Alli explained that she was sent straight to the hospital in an ambulance to be assessed by a neurosurgeon.

“The outcome – no immediate surgery was required & I have been sent home in a hard neck brace that I’ll be living in 24/7 for the next 4 months as my neck hopefully heals itself.

“I am EXTREMELY lucky to be alive and/or not quadriplegic as it JUST missed my spinal cord…,” she wrote.

The 23-year-old revealed she is facing a long recovery following the incident which occurred last week.

“The way I see it, four months is a drop in the ocean when it comes to the rest of my happy & healthy life.. as you can imagine, I have been in endless tears and thanking every guardian angel watching over me in the pool that night plus every moment since.”

Who Was Alli Simpson With When She Broke Her Neck?

According to The Herald Sun, Alli’s brother, singer and swimmer Cody Simpson, helped rescue her after she hit her head and blacked out near their home on the Gold Coast.

“She hit her head and blacked out, it was very scary,’’ Alli’s mother Angie told the publication.

“Cody and I raced to her and got an ambulance. He was quite distraught. She’s strong and a trooper and it’ll take about six months at least before she can walk properly again.

“It’s a warning to all our friends that you can dive in and be silly and not realise the depth.”
