Former Married at First Sight star Martha Kalifatidis has detailed the holiday from hell she and fiancé Michael Brunelli have experienced while in the US.
While the pair stunned fans when they announced their engagement in early December, we were even more shocked to learn they were actually in Los Angeles!
However, despite the excitement of wedding bells in their future, Martha has confessed that their trip to LA was “terrible”!
During an Instagram Q&A, one follower asked the TV bride how their holiday has been.
“Guys, LA was terrible! We went back because we loved it so much when we were there two years ago… but it’s not the same,” Martha revealed.
The 33-year-old added that the city has changed “so much” over the course of the pandemic and that “the homeless situation is so bad”.
The couple even witnessed a “lifeless body” on Melrose Avenue, with Martha calling the scene “horrific”.
“I couldn’t eat for the rest of the day after seeing that. I felt sick. The crime rate is up 300%!” she added. “Every Uber driver told us to beware, don’t wear anything flashy because [people] have been getting robbed at gunpoint.”

Martha confessed that she and Michael “booked a stay” in LA “completely unaware” of the current crime climate.
“Nowhere is safe. Even Beverly Hills is super dangerous and experiencing [violent] crimes daily,” she penned. “The news over here is so different, we don’t hear about anything going on, so we booked a stay here completely unaware.”
According to Martha, the LA Mayor, Eric Garcetti, has been warning tourists to stay away from the city.
“it’s such a scary time, we are so lucky in Australia!” she said. “I will not be coming back to LA/USA for a very long time! It’s been horrifying!”
The Sydneysider also revealed that she and Michael, who she met on MAFS in 2019, had planned to go to New York City for ten days but have cancelled the trip.
“We looked at going to London for the ten days and maybe doing a few days in Paris, but due to Covid we can’t risk it,” she said.
With the UK implementing stricter lockdown laws again, the reality stars don’t want to risk not being able to see their families for Christmas.
“It’s been nice getting away, but I wouldn’t recommend travelling out of Australia at all right now,” she wrote. “After seeing the mess in the USA I feel so grateful for where we live. We are so lucky.”

While it feels like they’ve been married for years since meeting at the altar in 2019, the pair are actually not legally wed. However, they are about to be!
Taking to their respective Instagrams, both Michael and Martha shared the exciting news on December 5.
“Mrs B,” they captioned their joint post.
Despite all of the hullabaloo, the actual proposal wasn’t too much of a surprise to fans.
In fact, Michael and Martha have been hinting at marriage and starting a family for quite some time now.
Back in October, the MAFS power couple answered followers’ questions on their Instagram stories.
Michael and Martha spilled tea on all things marriage and babies, with one follower asking Michael where he wants to be in five years’ time.
The 30-year-old simply responded with an image of a family and white picket fence so, CONFIRMATION! Kids are definitely on the cards for the loved-up couple, who met on MAFS in 2019.
When asked about what she would want her engagement ring to look like, Martha admitted she has “never given thought” to it.
She also said that she’s not sure she even likes engagement rings, confessing she “didn’t get the bride gene”! That fact’s kind of surprising considering she appeared on a show that, you know, centred on her being a bride…
“I’m sure [Michael] will pick a beautiful ring,” the 33-year-old said. “I’m kinda happy for Michael to pick the ring himself.
“It would just mean more… I think.”
