Despite winning The Masked Singer Australia 2021 as Vampire on Tuesday, pop icon Anastacia has revealed she wasn’t feeling as great as her performances made us feel while appearing on the show!

Anastacia revealed on The Project that she had neck surgery to correct two herniated discs before appearing on The Masked Singer Australia 2021. Source: Network Ten.

The 53-year-old confessed to The Project on Wednesday night that she underwent neck surgery prior to her appearance on the hit singing show

“I had two herniated discs and they were pretty much on top of each other with no room to move,” she explained.

She also said that her doctor thought she was “asking for trouble” if she decided to compete on The Masked Singer without fixing her injuries.

The Adrenline-Filled Experience That Left Her In Pain

In June the I’m Outta Love singer documented her surgery on her Instagram account, sharing before and after X-rays and an image of herself in a neck brace.

Anastacia wrote to her followers that her injuries were the result of a horror paragliding experience while on tour in New Zealand in 2020.

“There was no sailing or gliding done in the adventure,” she said. “Instead it felt like I was in a cyclone.”

She also admitted that “it didn’t take long for the real pain to kick in” when she returned home. Despite her doctor recommending surgery, Anastacia “put it off” until June.

On The Project, Anastacia also spoke to the panelists about her “beast” costume on The Masked Singer Australia, where she performed underneath the Vampire mask.

Describing the outfit as “really top-heavy”, she confessed that she had to relearn how to move on stage so she could balance the delicately designed mask.

Despite her injuries, it didn’t prevent her from taking home the crown! What a great effort!
