While it feels like it was only yesterday that we were engrossed in Married at First Sight 2021 and the drama surrounding all of its prisoners — sorry, contestants — we have it on good authority that the 2022 season is already underway with filming!

On episode 101 of So Dramatic! With Megan Pustetto it was revealed that contestants for the upcoming season are currently quarantining in Sydney ahead of their weddings! We hope they’re saying their final goodbyes to their dignity and privacy ahead of the most intrusive reality TV show known to man!

So Dramatic! is aware of two contestants who recently began their quarantine period ahead of filming, including a semi-famous beauty blogger from Sydney and a very chiseled hunk o’ spunk who appears to be some sort of model or influencer.

One source close to the mystery man told So Dramatic! that he isn’t interested in a relationship “at all” and well, what contestant is when they apply for MAFS?!

“[He] just wants to become known but that’s not really a shock,” the source said, noting she found this out through a friend who has been “hooking up with him recently”. Ooh, a potential secret girlfriend situation already? We love to see it!

MAFS’ resident sexologist and one of the three “experts” (we use this term VERY lightly), Alessandra Rampolla, reportedly touched down in Sydney last month and was seeing out her mandatory hotel quarantine after arriving in the country from her prime residence in Puerto Rico. Similarly, fellow expert Mel Schilling has also returned to Australia after working as an expert on the UK iteration of Married at First Sight.

Several news outlets previously reported that production on the infamous social experiment had been hugely delayed and pushed back to November, but now that pending fame-seekers are in the quarantine phase of production it would suggest that delays are no longer the case!

This may be due to the New South Wales’ government’s recent announcement that weddings will be permitted to go ahead with a maximum of 11 guests. The current COVID guidelines also restrict the events to an outdoor ceremony where no other gatherings or reception parties are allowed.

Celebrants and a photographer are not included in the event headcount, but the government is yet to specify whether an entire TV film crew falls under the guest category!

Our take is that the filming of backstories and wedding preparation will be happening mid-September with weddings taking place at the end of the month.

Nine has also maintained that the series will be ready on time and airing early in the new year, but the schedule will be drastically tightened when it goes into post-production.

Let’s hope this time around that they don’t leave all the good bits on the cutting room floor!
