Viewed as one of the most gruelling television series worldwide, SAS Australia is back for its second season where 18 celebrity recruits will face “terrifying”, “nail-biting” and “explosive” conditions beginning Monday, September 13.

The release date for the upcoming season was unveiled in an Instagram post, followed by a sneak peek trailer which promises this season to be “more shocking, more extreme, more controversial” than the last.

The clips showed unreal scenes of the new recruits in all sorts of terrifying situations, including jumping out of helicopters, driving through a field of explosives and abseiling down cliff faces. It’s safe to say there is zero chance of us signing up for this show!

Celebrities from all facets of the public eye have been handpicked to take on the gritty physical and psychological challenges, including several Olympians in the likes of Jana Pittman and Alicia Molik, as well as Ironman Jett Kenny and controversial former Rabbitohs player Sam Burgess, who reportedly caused an instructor to be hospitalised after an exercise gone wrong.

Some surprising names also popped up in the cast announcement made in April, with socialite Brynne Edelsten, actress Isabelle Cornish and singer-songwriter-turned Neighbours star Bonnie Anderson all locked in to appear on the series.

This year, Channel 7 have ditched the freezing cold scrub of the Snowy Mountains, instead affording the contestants the much more bearable climate of NSW’s Blue Mountains for season two of SAS Australia, but we doubt the challenges will be any easier as long as former Special Forces soldier Ant Middleton is screaming orders in their faces.

In a statement last year, Ant said that he “[didn’t] care if recruits pass the course”.

“I am not there to be friends with anyone,” he doubled down.  “I am there to make sure the participants overcome their fears and drive them to push themselves to develop the attributes necessary to pass the course.”

SAS Australia will premiere on Channel 7 and 7plus on Monday, September 13.
