Having “never seen a fancy house before except on TV”, Kirsty Lee Akers and Jesse Anderson are in for a rude awakening when it comes to turning a partially built home into a multi-million dollar property.

You may recognise Kirsty as the ARIA award-winning and two-time Golden Guitar winner country musician, and she’s already out for another victory — to become the winner of The Block 2021, alongside husband Jesse, who is a videographer with past experience as a machinist.

But don’t underestimate these country bumpkins, who have been together since they were 16-years-old, because they’ve renovated a total of six homes since purchasing their first property in country New South Wales.

Now 33 and 32-years-old respectively, Kirsty and Jesse’s strong work ethic has already awarded them the first ‘Fans VS Favourites’ challenge win, after wowing the judges with their country-Hamptons bedroom.  Jesse is adamant that this skill and their “humble beginnings” will propel them far ahead of the other teams.

“We both come from nothing,” he told Homes To Love.  “So real estate means a lot to us.”

But are humble beginnings and the ability to wield a sledgehammer enough to give this Wangi Wangi pair an edge over returning contestants Ronnie and Georgia and Mitch and Mark?

Kirsty and Jesse will also showdown against fellow Block newbies Tanya and Vito and Josh and Luke, on Sunday nights at 7pm, as well as on Monday through Wednesday at 7:30 on Channel 9 and 9Now.
