Find us someone who says that eating a Vegemite sandwich isn’t hot and we’ll show them the brand new trailer for Love Island Australia 2021, which not only boasts horny sandwich eating, but a flute-playing mermaid in the form of host Sophie Monk!

Yep, the Love Island ‘Straya’ trailer shows Sophie decked out in an Aussie flag bikini and full-on mermaid tail as she plays the flute riffs to our unofficial national anthem Down Under, all while hot half-naked singles climb out of pools and makeout in slow motion. Pure cinematic excellence if you ask us — do they give out gold Logies for promo videos?

The clip is heavy with allusions to our great nation (hello, budgie smugglers), whose Byron Bay beaches will serve as the backdrop for Love Island Australia for the very first time after strict border closures stopped production from travelling to Spain, where the series’ first two seasons were filmed.

The trailer even warns: “BEWARE CROCS” — no, not the animal kind that’ll chew you up and spit you out in two, but the divisive plastic shoes which recently made a comeback on Love Island UK, in turn causing a 1300% spike in demand for the controversial fashion accessory.

While we’re unsure whether the chiseled hotties in the trailer are actually contestants, we do know that the casting process was an absolute rollercoaster for the production team.

As discussed in episode 73 of So Dramatic! With Megan Pustetto, the Love Island Australia casting crew were so desperate for contestants that they dipped into the existing reality TV pool and approached several former Bachie contestants, including Leilani Vakaahi and Shannon Karaka, as well as Newcastle Knights rugby player Conor Watson!

Among fans’ excitement for the upcoming season, Love Island Australia 2019 winner Anna McEvoy was seemingly thrilled at the show’s return, penning “yewww” alongside emojis of a koala and Aussie flag beneath the show’s Instagram post of the trailer.

No official start date has been disclosed by Nine as of yet, but rest assured that Love Island Australia 2021 and its hot singles are coming to a banter-filled screen near you very soon.
